Our Cape Cares initiative is an on-going project designed to promote youth activism in every member. The purpose is to have members identify a cause he/she is passionate about and engage in field activity, be mentored by an existing activist, and help build community awareness; while positively utilizing social media for advocacy. For many years cape has given back in various forms and fashion. Cape Cares highlights our community service and volunteering efforts. #CapeFeedsDC
Chez Cape was a pop-up restaurant designed exclusively for homeless women, men and children. The purpose of this project was to provide displaced individuals with a delicious meal, dignified service and a special occasion that caters to them in a way that is different from the usual soup kitchen or van handouts. Chez CAPE is led and planned by young people, ages 11-18, who will also serve as the hosts, servers and meal preparers. The children created a beautiful dining venue in a transformed space, donated by Fellowship Baptist Church, complete with linen-dressed tables, menus, tableware and waitstaff. Guests will also be treated to live entertainment from Maceo Kemp and Jamming for Justice; and provided with take away bags filled with non-perishable snacks, toiletries, socks and handwritten notes from the kids. Our goal was reached when we served upwards of 50 people during the event.
In the spirit of supporting businesses and families during this coronavirus crisis, The Cape League and Powerful Beyond Measure sponsored lunch from Jersey Mike’s for 12 families in the Washington DC area!! We had lunch/dinner delivered to the families on Sunday, March 29th! More information about this can be found on our social media
